On the banks of the sacred river Ganga, at the confluence of two of its tributaries the Varuna and the Assi lies the oldest living city in the world, the eternal city of Varanasi. Varanasi Cantt. was established in the year 1811. The emergence of Cantt. Board as a municipal body in Cantonments was basically in response to the need for maintenance of proper sanitation and health and hygiene of these areas. The scope of the Cantt.
